COLUMBUS, Ohio—The University of Evansville softball team could not pick up their second win over a Big Ten Conference team as the Aces dropped a 6-2 game to Ohio State on Wednesday at New Buckeye Field.
Kylie Wagner continued her success at the plate by putting the Aces on the board first. After consecutive walks by Kristen Shirk and Jen Stahlhut, Wagner doubled to left center to score Shirk.
Ohio State quickly answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field. The Buckeyes took advantage of two Aces’ errors to put up two runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Aces pulled within a run in the fourth. Amy Gaertner and Krista Priced led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Shirk walked to load the bases, and Wagner picked up her second RBI of the game by being hit by a pitch to score Price.
The Buckeyes got a RBI single in the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth to pick up three runs to improve to 33-6 on the season.
Wagner, Gaertner and Price had two-hit days to lead the Aces as Wagner picked up both RBI in the game. Stahlhut and Annie Vincelett had base hits in the Aces’ eight-hit game.
Jen McKee took the loss in the circle, tossing three innings and giving up two earned runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Wagner finished out the game, pitching three innings and giving up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Aces (10-26, 2-13) will travel to Missouri State for a three-game weekend series beginning with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
