University of Evansville men's soccer coach Mike Jacobs announced today that Jesse Sharp, the leading scorer in Warsaw (Ind.) Community High School history, will play for the Purple Aces in 2009. Sharp is Warsaw's all-time leader in goals (50), assists (29) and points (127). He plans on majoring in physical therapy.
"Jesse is an athletic, hard working attacking player," Jacobs said. "We look forward to him joining our squad because his style of play blends well with the other attacking players in our program."
Sharp was a second team all-state selection as a senior. He helped lead the Ft. Wayne Fever Academy team to the USL Super-Y League national finals, and to the Indiana State Cup Championships in 2007, as well as a quarterfinals appearance in the USYSA Region II Championships. His Ft. Wayne Fever Academy squad also included incoming University of Evansville recruit Gavin Chura.
Sharp becomes the sixth newcomer added to the 2009 UE roster, joining 19 returning players who helped lead the Aces to their third consecutive winning season in 2008.
