EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, but one hit would not hold up as the visiting Northern Iowa Panthers sent the game into extra innings and won, 2-1, in ten innings at Cooper Stadium on Sunday.

One hit was almost enough for a win for the Aces, as Kristen Shirk had a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning for the Aces’ only hit in the first six innings.

The Aces struggled for hits and had very few base runners. Following the home run, Panther’s pitcher Jen Larsen retired 11 of the next 12 batters she faced before Annie Vincelett broke the streak win a single in the seventh.

Lindsay Callanan tied the game at a run apiece with a two-out triple in the seventh inning to score Kelly Papesh and give the Aces their fourth extra inning game of the week.

The Aces had their best chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth with Kylie Wagner and Amanda Ockomon starting a two-out rally with back-to-back singles. Vincelett drew a walk to load the bases, but the Panthers ended the threat with a groundout.

Larsen drove in the winning run with a RBI single in the 10th inning that allowed Megan Machovec to score from third.

The Panthers out hit the Aces, tallying 11 hits while holding the Aces to four. The Aces left eight runners on base and Krista Price was credited with her sixth stolen base of the season with two walks in five at bats.

Both pitchers lasted the entire game with Larsen earning the win. She gave up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Wagner game up both runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Aces (8-23, 0-13) will host Eastern Illinois in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
