The University of Evansville swimming and diving program has added Eric Blevins as an assistant diving coach, head coach Rickey Perkins announced Friday.
Blevins joins the staff after spending the last two years as head diving coach at Minnesota State University. Blevins was also a two-time All-American and eight-time Midwest Conference Champion at Grinnell College.
“We are lucky to have someone of Eric’s experience and quality,” Perkins said. “He has a wealth of knowledge and a wide variety in his background, which I really like. Eric is very enthusiastic and will bring a new level of experience to the Evansville program.”
While at Minnesota State, Blevins coached three All-Americans and five NCAA qualifiers. He was responsible for practices, diving recruitment, meet management, rehabilitation for swimmers and divers, and other tasks assigned by the head swimming coach.
Coaching is not something new to Blevins as he directed the diving teams at Saint Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Spending one season at both schools, Blevins brought each a NCAA qualifier while taking on other various responsibilities.
Blevins is not limited to just his diving knowledge, as proven by his event, marketing and research internships. His stints include such organizations as the Minnesota State Women’s Walk Fundraiser, Abingdon Fitness Center, Minnesota Vikings Training Camp and ICON Sports Management. He also served as a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness Club.
A graduate of Grinnell College in 2004 in economics and Minnesota State in 2009 with a master’s in sports management, Blevins is certified to coach diving, football and track at the collegiate level and be an instructor for Level I gymnastics and trampoline.
