MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The University of Memphis scored three second half goals Sunday afternoon to break open a close match and defeat the University of Evansville women's soccer team, 4-0.
Amanda Olszewski scored the lone goal of the first half, at 34:04. Julia Ignacio made it a 2-0 contest at 52:33, Ashley Berra scored at 72:04 and Melissa Smith tallied the final score at 79:50. Memphis was credited with a total of 50 shots, including 18 on goal against UE goalkeeper Theresa Bagby, who made 14 saves. That was one shy of Misty Long's 1994 school record of 15 saves. Evansville put all seven of its shots on goal, but Memphis goalkeeper Jordan Boyle turned away all seven.
Katelyn Smith led the way with two shots for the 2-6-0 Aces. Memphis is now 5-3-0.
The Aces are off until next Sunday, when they host Drake at Black Beauty Field in the first Missouri Valley Conference match of the season.
