CHARLESTON, Ill. -- There's an advantage to being a 6-foot, 7-inch soccer player, and
Jarrett Robbins used size to his advantage here this afternoon to give the University of Evansville a 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Eastern Illinois.
The lanky sophomore defender headed in
Blake Schneider's free kick midway through the first half for UE's first goal, and Evansville's defense made sure that was all the Purple Aces needed as they extended their winning streak to six matches. That's the longest winning streak at Evansville since the 1996 NCAA Tournament team won seven straight. Evansville is now 7-2-0. Eastern Illinois is 3-3-2. Wednesday's match was the MVC opener for both.
Tad Kreamalmeyer scored the insurance goal for Evansville at 66:03, his fifth goal of the season, following a scamble in front of the net.
Tom Irvin got the assist. Aces' goalkeeper
Phil Boerger made four saves and picked up his fourth shutout of the year. UE finished with a total of 12 shots, six on goal, while the Panthers got off 11 shots, four on goal.
The Aces go for seven in a row Saturday at Omaha, Neb. against perennial national power Creighton at 6:00.
