ST. LOUIS—It didn’t take long for the University of Evansville swimming and diving team to get back in competition mode at Saint Louis University on Sunday, as the women’s team upended the Billikens 150-74 and the men fell to a tough Saint Louis squad 126-98.
“Both teams swam really well,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “The girls won every event that they swam, so they just did outstanding. The guys fought hard. We won some good events, but winning both relays was really huge for us. Now it is just time to get back to the pool and work to prepare for Western Kentucky.”
The women’s team finished with nine individual and two relay first place finishes. Christina Schmidgall in the 500 and 100 free, Michea Reinitz in the 50 free and 100 fly, Hannah Quast in the 100 and 200 free, and Alex Howard in the 200 free and 100 back each took home two top spots in the meet. Jill Enge also added a first place time in the 100 breast while the team took first in the 400 medley and 400 free relays.
The Aces men also had some top finishers against the Billikens, as Alex Seward finished first in the 200 free and 100 fly and Chris Nash posted first in the 100 back. Kyle Tiemann placed second in the 50 free with Jake Harrington right behind in third. Harrington also placed second in the 100 free while Justin Shotwell recorded second in the 200 IM and Colin Gray with second in the 100 breast.
The divers also had top-three finishers, as Jennifer Childers and Andy Balczo both placed third in the 1-meter boards.
The Purple Aces continue a busy January with a trip to Western Kentucky on Saturday, January 16 at 1:00 p.m.
