BOWLING GREEN, Ky.— Despite holding a lead after the divers took the stage, the University of Evansville swimming and diving fell to a tough Western Kentucky team on Saturday with a women’s score of 121-113 and a men’s score of 120-107.

“The divers did a great job for us today and helped gain lots of valuable points,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “WKU is a great program, it’s an honor to compete against them. We competed with our hearts today. I’m happy that we showed up to race. We are well ahead of where we were last year at this point in the season. We will stay focused and get back to work next week.”

On the boards, the Aces finished the meet with three first place scores from freshman Sadie Wells and senior Josh Fletcher on the three meter and junior Andy Balczo on the one meter. Junior Jennifer Childers also placed second on the one-meter boards while Balczo received second in the three meter.

The women’s team grabbed some first place victories in the lanes, as freshman Michea Reinitz took first in the 50 free and freshman Jill Enge in the 200 breast. Reinitz also placed second in the 200 fly. Sophomore Hannah Quast posted second for the Lady Aces in the 100 free and third in the 200 free. Junior Christina Schmidgall finished second in the 500 free and third in the 1000 free. Junior Diane Threlkeld recorded second in the 200 back.

Sophomore Colin Gray tallied a first place spot for the men’s team in the 200 breast in the close loss. Junior Will Spradley took second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free while junior Chris Nash placed second in the 200 back.
