The University of Evansville women’s basketball team is hoping that fans will “think pink” on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when the Purple Aces host Indiana State at Roberts Stadium, as the game will be the eighth annual Women’s Hoops For The Cure presented by Insight Communications to benefit the Greater Evansville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure.
This year, the Purple Aces are hoping to “pink out” Roberts Stadium at the Hoops For The Cure, as fans are encouraged to wear pink to support Susan G. Komen For The Cure and breast cancer survivors. Pink 2010 Women’s Hoops For The Cure t-shirts will also be available at the game for $10, with all proceeds going to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure.
The Women’s Hoops For The Cure is a collaborative partnership between the UE athletics department, UE women’s basketball program, and the Greater Evansville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure which is designed to help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Tickets for the 2010 Women’s Hoops For The Cure will be discounted to $3.00, with half of the ticket proceeds going to Susan G. Komen For The Cure to aid in breast cancer research. The first 750 fans in attendance will also receive a free cinch bag compliments of Deaconess Breast Center.
The Purple Aces will wear special pink home uniforms during the Hoops For The Cure, and replica versions of those jerseys will be available during both a silent and Chinese auction which will benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure. Other items available during the auctions include a Jerry Sloan Hall of Fame autographed basketball, four field box tickets to the Indianapolis Indians, Holiday World tickets, tennis lessons from Tri-State Athletic Club, and much more.
Fifth Third Bank will also donate $53 to Susan G. Komen For The Cure for every three-point field goal made by the UE women’s basketball team during the game. Area Girl Scout troops will also be on hand to sell Girl Scout cookies beginning after halftime.
Tickets for the 2010 Women’s Hoops For The Cure are now available at the UE Carson Center Ticket Office. Tickets are also available by phone by calling (812) 488-ACES.
Evansville will bring a 4-21 overall record and 1-13 MVC mark into Saturday’s game, after dropping a 67-50 decision to league-leading Illinois State on Thursday night. Indiana State, meanwhile, will bring a 13-11 overall mark and 4-9 conference record into Saturday’s game after knocking off Southern Illinois, 70-62, in Carbondale, Illinois on Thursday. Saturday’s game will mean something extra to UE senior guard and leading scorer Amy Gallagher (10.3 ppg), as her mother Karen is currently battling breast cancer.
“Saturday’s game is going to be a very emotional game for me and my family,” said Amy Gallagher. “I?am so excited to be able to play in this game for my mom, and I?know that she will be thrilled to be able to be there watching me play for her on that court.”
