MUNCIE, Ind. -- Diver Andy Balczo won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, and Alex Seward also collected two firsts to lead the University of Evansville men's swimming and diving team Friday night at Ball State. The host Cardinals won the dual meet 181-115.
Balczo won the 3-meter men's event with 236.10 points and the 1-meter with 297.60. Carder LaBrake won the 500 freestyle in 5:00.31, Seward won the 200 free in 1:48.56, Ryan Metzger won the 200 backstroke in 1:59.40, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Seward, Will Spradley, Jake Harrington and Kyle Tiemann finished first in 3:13.06.
Leading the women in their dual against the Cardinals was Christina Schmidgall, who won the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events, and was part of UE's winning 400-yard free relay.
"I was super happy with them," Head Coach Rickey Perkins said about his teams. "We had some awesome performances. We've had a tougher training schedule and more time in the weight room this year, and they've adjusted very well. Both teams have done well, and I expect even more from them this season."
