BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The University of Evansville women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the final day of the Hilltopper Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky.

“Overall it was a really awesome weekend for us,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “We had some really good swims and dives all around the board.

“Our goal of this meet was to see where we stand at this point in the season,” Perkins continued. “We were using this as a rehearsal for our conference tournaments and I think we did very well.”

In the final day of competition, the women’s relay team took second place in the 400-freestyle. Individually, Christina Schmidgall placed fourth in the 1650-free with a time of 17:44.68 while Melissa Thurman finished fourth in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:27.38.

The men’s 400-relay took a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:13.44. Ryan Metzger placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.97.

“Now we’re going to go back and work on a few things and keep moving forward,” added Perkins.

Both men’s and women’s teams will return to Western Kentucky on December 4 to take on the Hilltoppers in a dual meet.
