Roberts Stadium may be going into retirement soon, but it's open for business on the first day of its final year.  That's because the University of Evansville (6-5, 0-1) men's basketball team plays on Saturday, at home against the Sycamores of Indiana State University (6-6, 1-0).  Tip-off is at 7:05 CST.

•This is the second straight year that Evansville has played on New Year’s Day, but only the second time since joining the MVC in 1994.  The Aces rang in 2010 with a 65-46 loss at eventual MVC champion Northern Iowa.

•Evansville has played more games against Indiana State than any other opponent.  The two have met 151 times, dating back to 1920-21. Evansville had a chance to regain the series lead last season for the first time since 2001, but the Sycamores won two from the Aces to extend their series lead to 77-74.

•In each of the last five seasons, one team has swept the Indiana State-Evansville series.  The Aces won both in 2005-06, ‘06-07 and ‘08-09. ISU swept in 2007-08 and last season.

•Sophomore guard Colt Ryan has scored 18 points or more in three straight games.  He’s the second leading scorer in the Valley at 17.2 ppg, and his 3-point shooting percentage of .492 is also second best.

•Sophomore guard Ned Cox came off the bench to tie his season-high with 11 points Wednesday at Wichita State.  Cox has made a 3-pointer in each of his last four games.

•Senior center Clint Hopf has hit 10 of 12 shots over the last two games, and 21 of 24 free throws over the last four games.  He’s shooting 68 percent from the field this season, but doesn’t have enough FGs to qualify for the MVC rankings. He does rank 10th in the MVC in free throw percentage at 81 percent. Hopf and Colt Ryan are the only two Evansville players to score at least eight points in each of the last five games.

•Evansville and Missouri State are the only two MVC teams that have used the same starting lineup in every game.  The Aces’ five include seniors Pieter van Tongeren and Kavon Lacey, juniors Kenneth Harris and Denver Holmes, and sophomore Colt Ryan.  Five others have played in all 11 games–Clint Hopf, Ned Cox, Jordan Jahr, Troy Taylor and Lewis Jones.
