There’s nothing like counting down the days until the first games of the season… that is, unless you’ve already made it through the countdown only to add on a good nine more days to the practice plans! But now that we’re in the final stretch and it’s GAME WEEK (…again), the team is getting geared up and ready to put it all on the line this weekend! Not to mention, we’re all pretty freaking pumped about the thought of playing on actual dirt- CAN I GET AN AMEN!
For Love of the Game (All things softball):
Since Al Gore and global warming took their toll on the entire continental United States, our first games were unfortunately snowed out. The open slot in our schedule gave us plenty of time to hit the Armory and get in some more practice and inter-squad scrimmage games so that we head off to Chattanooga this weekend even more prepared and focused. Our scrimmages unfortunately didn’t quite live up to their potential due to a significant portion of the team coming down sick (and by significant, we mean that it was the pitchers and catchers, which are obviously the most important people on the field… JOKES!!). Even though the practice plans had to be modified to adapt to our 10-player team, we got a lot accomplished, and we’re ready get to work on the field this weekend!
Outside the Lines (Shenanigans, jokes, and other entertaining stories):
With the game cancellations, our team found themselves in Evansville to celebrate Valentine’s Day. However, it just so happens that a majority of the team is single (you heard right fellas—holla atcha’ girl!), so we chose to celebrate Jamie and Krista’s 22nd birthday with a V-day lunch at Old Chicago. It was a great way spend some time together off the field, and if a free birthday cookie is involved, hey, we’re not complaining!
We regret to inform you that we aren’t full of hilarious anecdotes of our crazy adventures on the bus, but those are hopefully on the way! In the mean time, we’d like to thank our loyal fans for their comments. It’s nice to know that you all love to read this blog as much as we like to write it! Although we are sometimes put off by her sass, athletic trainer Natalie Fishel seems to have done her fair share of work talking us up around the training room! (Which we believe is the reason our water bottles have seemed extra-cold lately…gotta love those star-status perks!) So keep those comments coming and you MAY just even get a fan shout-out in our next entry!!
We take off for the UT Chattanooga Tournament on Thursday to start the 2010 season off right! We hope to see you some of you in the stands (fingers crossed for good weather while you’re at it!). For those of you who can’t come we will be here with the updates after the weekend! Until then, you stay hot Evansville!
