Maggie Wood of the University of Evansville was chosen today as Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. She is the first Purple Aces' golfer to receive the honor since Vandi Gooch in 2008. Wood became Evansville's first tournament champion in seven years on Monday when she finished as co-medalist of the Ann Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout, played at Timberline Golf Club in Calara, Ala. Wood shot 77 and 75 to finish with a 36-hole score of 152. She is UE's first tournament champion since Andrea Werner won the 2003 Lady Herd Classic. Wood shared the individual title in the 35-player tournament with Jennifer Sells of Jackson State University. As a team, Evansville took 17 shots off Sunday's total to jump from fifth to third place in the final standings with a team score of 653.
