After a brief lay-over at Charles H. Braun Stadium over the weekend, the University of Evansville baseball team will return to the road this week, as the Purple Aces will travel to Clarksville, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri this week to take on Austin Peay State and Saint Louis University in a pair of mid-week contests on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
Evansville, which has opened the 2010 season with 13 of its first 16 games on the road, will pack a 6-10 overall record for this week’s mid-week road trip. The Purple Aces were able to enjoy a 2-1 weekend at home this past weekend, as UE tied with Morehead State and Purdue for first place in the annual Dunn Hospitality Diamond Classic at Braun Stadium. Evansville was able to win its first two games on the weekend, before Purdue rallied for a 4-3 extra-inning victory over UE on Sunday.

Cody Fick currently paces the UE offense with a .323 batting average, four home runs and 16 RBI. Freshman shortstop
Eric Stamets also currently bats above .300 for UE at .308, while leading the team and the Missouri Valley Conference in stolen bases by going a perfect 14-for-14 in the stolen base department so far. Stamets is also tied for the team lead with seven doubles.
Austin Peay will enter Tuesday night’s 6:00 p.m. game in Clarksville, Tennessee with a 9-6 overall record, including an 8-1 mark at home. Catcher Trey Lucas leads a balanced APSU offensive attack this year with a .404 average, a home run, and 15 RBI. Senior left-hander Stephen Huff (2-1, 3.75 ERA) is expected to get the start in Tuesday’s contest for the Governors against UE sophomore left-hander Seth McCabe (1-0, 9.00 ERA).
Saint Louis, meanwhile, will bring an 8-8 overall record into this week’s action. The Billikens will take on Indiana State on Tuesday, before hosting Evansville at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Offense has not been a problem this year for Saint Louis, as the Billikens will bring a .315 team batting average into this week’s action, with senior first baseman Danny Brock providing the power in the lineup with a .362 average, seven home runs, and 24 RBI.
