After finally getting the chance to take the field last weekend, the University of Evansville softball team will continue its playing time as the Purple Aces travel to Murray State Wednesday, March 3 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
The Aces are coming of a 1-4 mark at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last Friday and Saturday. The team grabbed head coach Mark Redburn’s first win at UE with a 3-0 victory over Austin Peay. Freshman Kendall Kautz pitched the shutout for the Aces while freshmen Tamara Robey and Alicia Betancur and senior Krista Price crossed home plate for UE’s runs.
Sophomore Ashleigh Rahming led the Aces with five runs and a .455 batting average over the weekend. Sophomores Allison Aguilera, Amy Gaertner and Maggie Little each posted their first home runs of the season against Wright State.
In its first year with a softball program, Murray State has opened the 2010 season with an 0-5 start after competing at the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic last weekend against host Ole Miss, Centenary and SIU-Edwardsville.
Junior Taylor Wilson leads the Racers with a .556 batting average, as she was 5-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, one triple and a run scored. Sophomore Megan Glosser was aggressive on the bases after going 4-for-4 on stolen bases while junior Lauren Buch made it across home plate three times.
