The University of Evansville turned a 1-0 halftime advantage into a 7-0 victory with a strong second half Saturday at McCutchan Stadium against Bellarmine University as the Purple Aces improved to 2-0 in the spring.
"We did come out with a lot more urgency in the second half," according to Coach Mike Jacobs, "and developed a lot more continuity in the midfield and attacking thirds of the field. Scoring chances came more frequently when we made the field bigger and kept the ball moving, which led to a lot of scoring chances.
"We are still a long way from where we want to become post-season in November and December, but that is what the Spring is for: to continue to fine-tune and get our team ready for the start of the regular season in August. A lot of players were able to see significant minutes for us, including two players (Robert Randant and Cole Page) who have already seen more minutes this Spring than they had during the entire 2009 season."
Tad Kreamalmeyer scored in the second minute, thanks to assists from Tom Irvin and Robby Lynch. The big second half included goals by Mike Luttrull in the 47th minute, Tyler Kincaid from Irvin in the 59th, Lynch from Blake Schneider in the 65th, Irvin from Sam Bornstein and Kincaid in the 78th, Kreamalmeyer from Dan Gibson in the 84th minute, and Richard Menjivar from Luttrull in the 89th.
UE's next Spring exhibition match is Sunday against IPFW at McCutchan Stadium at 2:00 cdt.
