The Aces look to improve their MVC standings with a three-game series against Indiana State on Friday and Saturday.

Aces Close Out Home Slate With Indiana State

4/1/2010 11:03:00 AM

Although classes are canceled and workers get a day off, the University of Evansville softball team will be in full gear this weekend, as the Aces (8-14, 3-5 MVC) host Indiana State (11-15, 0-5 MVC) on Friday with a noon doubleheader and the last game starting at noon on Saturday at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium.

The Aces are coming off a 2-1 victory over Southern Illinois on Wednesday, as sophomore Amy Gaertner and senior Krista Price each had a solo home run to add UE’s only hits and runs of the game. Freshman Kendall Kautz was able to keep the Salukis at bay, as she worked all seven innings and gave up four hits while striking out four. Price has been a big part of UE’s offense during the Missouri Valley Conference slate, as she is on a four-game hitting streak and has posted at least one run in each of those four games.

The Sycamores are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak this weekend after a recent 5-1 loss to No. 18 Illinois and Creighton and Northern Iowa taking the conference series against Indiana State. Bailey Wittenauer leads the team with a .320 average along with eight double and 19 RBI while Alyssa Doyle ranks first with 16 runs and 25 hits. Meagan McCurdy has seen the most time as pitcher and was named MVC Pitcher of the Week earlier this season. In 16 appearances, McCurdy has posted 97 strikeouts with 81 hits and 36 runs.

Friday's game will be broadcasted on 91.5 WUEV.

Following the Aces game on Saturday, all children 12 and under will be invited to participate in an Easter egg hunt around Cooper Stadium. Children are encouraged to bring their Easter basket or a bag to collect the colorful filled eggs. There will also be a special ticket price in effect for Saturday’s “Take a Kid to the Game,” as youth will have free admission with a paid adult for only $7.
