CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—Northern Iowa’s offense was able to put big innings together on Saturday to take both games of a doubleheader against the University of Evansville, as the Panthers (23-20, 10-8) won 10-6 and 9-0 against the Aces (15-27, 7-12).

UNI 10, Evansville 6

Despite solid showings from a 3-for-3 Jamie Lindauer and 2-for-3 Allison Aguilera, UE allowed the Panthers 14 hits in game one to fall 10-6.

UNI started things early in the bottom of the first with four runs on three hits in the inning. Megan Machovec scored after singling and stealing second off of a Kim Wachholder single to left. Eranne Daugharthy then came out with a three-run home run to increase the Panthers’ early lead. UE quickly answered in the second, as Krista Price hit a home run to left field in the team’s first at-bat for her seventh of the season.

Not to be outdone by Price, Amy Gaertner tied Price for the home run lead, as she hit a two-run long ball to bring in Jen Stahlhut and set the score at 4-3. UNI would grab two more runs in the bottom third before Aguilera brought in Brianna Villanueva off of a single to center to close the gap again at 6-4 in the fourth.

Three more Panther runs off of six hits in the fourth and fifth inning put the Aces in a 9-4 hole heading into the sixth, but after Aguilera singled and stole second, Lindauer doubled to right field for one more UE run. Stahlhut then repeated the action, as her double to right center brought in Lindauer. UNI put on one more run in the bottom sixth with a Jaye Hutcheson home run to left center.

Jen McKee (3-7) took the loss after giving up five hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings. The senior also walked two and struck out two. Elizabeth Grover came in for the remainder of the contest, as she allowed four runs off of nine hits.

UNI 9, Evansville 0 (5 Innings)

The momentum from winning game one stuck with UNI in the second half of Saturday, as a nine-run second inning would solidify the sweep and a 9-0 win in five innings.

The Panthers posted 10 of their 11 hits in the second inning, including a solo home run from Wachholder and a three-run homer from Courtney Dunker.

Kendall Kautz (11-10) gave up 10 hits and nine runs while Maggie Little pitched 2.1 innings of relief for one hit.

Gaertner earned the Aces’ lone hit of the game with a single in the second inning.

The Aces have one more midweek game in the 2010 season, as they travel to UT Martin on April 27 for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
