After a tough weekend at Northern Iowa, the University of Evansville softball team will look to string together hits and runs at UT Martin on Tuesday when they face the Skyhawks in a 5 p.m. doubleheader for the Purple Aces final midweek game of the season.
The Aces are currently 15-28 after a 0-3 setback against the Panthers in the Missouri Valley Conference series. UT Martin sits at 37-9 overall and is a perfect 14-0 at home.
Amy Gaertner would be the only Ace to grab a hit in every game versus the Panthers, including her seventh home run of the season to tie Krista Price as the team’s home run leader.
Jamie Lindauer had a couple of good days at the plate this week. On Thursday, Lindauer went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI against Belmont, including her first home run of the season. Lindauer continued her offense on Saturday in game one versus UNI, as she went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run and RBI.
The Skyhawks’ team offense leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a .320 average behind Megan Williams’ team-high 59 hits and .393 average. Williams also holds 12 home runs to help UT Martin to a season-record 56 while Jenny Bain’s 11 doubles go toward the team’s 66 this season. In the pitching circle, UT Martin holds a 2.09 ERA with Kate Vanderham and Paij Lintz seeing the most appearances. Vanderharm has a 1.56 ERA in 19 appearances while Lintz leads the team with 121 strikeouts to her 42 walks given.
After Tuesday’s contest, the Aces will have two more weekends left in the regular season. UE will host Drake in the team’s Senior Day to honor the three seniors in Lindauer, Jen McKee and Krista Price. The Aces then travel to Creighton the next weekend for the final conference match-up.
