On a team full of Division I recruits, Kenny Harris stood out for John A. Logan College's league championship team in 2009-10. Today, he became the newest member of the University of Evansville basketball team when he signed a national letter of intent with the Purple Aces.

The 6'6", 190-pound Harris averaged 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds to help Logan produce a 24-7 overall record and win the Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship with a 14-2 league record. Harris, GRAC Player of the Year Jesse Perry and Lazeric Jones were the three John A. Logan players selected for the all-GRAC first team. Perry signed with Arizona and Jones with UCLA. Others on the squad who signed this month with Division I schools for the 2010-11 season were Andre Clark with TCU and Antwond Roshell with Louisiana Tech.

"I felt like I was already part of the team when I came to Evansville to visit," said Harris, who played the shooting guard and small forward positions at Logan. "It reminded me of being on this year's team at Logan. I had a chance to go out to Boston College for a visit, but after being at Evansville, I decided not to look anywhere else. I really liked the coaches and players. My goal is to earn my degree and get Evansville more W's."

Added UE coach Marty Simmons, "We've been recruiting Kenny for two years, so we're really excited that he chose us. He brings athleticism, versatility and toughness to our team. He handles the ball well, passes it well. He can play a lot of positions, and he comes from a very successful program at John A. Logan."

A native of St. Louis, Harris started his high school career at Vashon before transferring to Gateway Tech, where he spent his final two years. He was an all-conference selection and averaged 17 points per game as a senior.

Harris becomes the third player to sign this spring with Evansville, joining Matt Peeler and Jordan Jahr. Peeler is a 6'8", 230-pound forward from Alamogordo, New Mexico who will graduate Saturday from Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colo. He averaged 14.2 points and 11.5 rebounds last season. Jahr is a 6'6", 200-pound forward/guard from Austin, Texas who attended Air Force Prep in Colorado Springs, Colo. He will have four years of eligibility at UE. Jahr averaged 15 points and 6.0 rebounds in 2009-10 at Air Force Prep after earning first team all-state honors one year earlier as a senior at Lake Travis High School in Austin.
