The University of Evansville softball team hosts its final home games at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium this weekend, as the Aces (15-30, 7-10) take on the Drake Bulldogs (29-16, 10-9) with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at noon.
The games will be featured as an internet-only broadcast by 91.5 WUEV. To listen to the games, click here.
UE will also be honoring the team’s three seniors in Jamie Lindauer, Jen McKee and Krista Price with a ceremony during the weekend. All three student-athletes have been with the Aces for four years and have either earned a single season or career record or have been given a Missouri Valley Conference award for their hard work on and off the field.
In the team’s last outing at UT Martin, Price led the UE offense with the team’s lone hit in game one and a grand slam in game two for her team-high eighth home run this season. Lindauer also grabbed a hit in game two against the Skyhawks and is three walks away from tying for fifth in UE’s career walks list, as Lindauer currently has 57 in her four-year stint as an Ace.
With a strikeout in game two against UT Martin, McKee is now 15 away from holding 200 strikeouts in her career. After posting 100 last season, McKee holds 12 as a career high against MTSU in 2009 and seven as a season high this year at Murray State.
Drake’s Erin Mollohan leads the team with a .313 average with 40 hits and 15 doubles. Mollohan is also in a three-way tie for tops in RBI, as Elena Leon and Lindsey Vande Wall also have 22 this season. Leon also attacks the bases, as she is 19-of-22 on stolen bases.
Drake holds a major threat with pitching, as Jenna DeLong and Brynne Dordel do most of the work and have 33 complete games between them. DeLong holds a 1.61 ERA and 14-9 record with 189 strikeouts. Dordel is just as good with a 1.77 ERA and 15-6 mark with 164 strikeouts.
After this weekend, the Aces will have one more conference series left in the regular season with a three-game contest at Creighton next weekend. UE currently sits in seventh place, but is still fighting to secure its spot in the MVC Tournament May 13-15 in Des Moines, Iowa, as the top eight teams enter the tourney.
