CLEVELAND, Ohio--The Mid-American Conference has announced its 2010 Academic All-MAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Team, and two University of Evansville student-athletes have been selected to the 18-person list with junior Andy Balczo and sophomore Colin Gray.
A native of Evansville, Balczo had a year to remember after he qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Championships with a 303.80 on the 1-meter boards at the IUPUI Invite early in the season. The junior did well throughout the season, as he placed first at Western Kentucky and second at Missouri State in the 1 meter. Balczo currently holds a 3.52 GPA and is majoring in business management.
Gray has consistently been one of the Aces best breaststroke swimmers this season with first-place finishes in the 200 breast against Miami (OH), Western Kentucky and Asbury College. Gray held the top team times in the 100 and 200 breast heading into the conference championships. The Carmel native holds a 4.00 GPA in mathematics.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
