Softball Set For Midweek Pair Against Austin Peay, Western Kentucky

4/6/2010 11:20:17 AM

The University of Evansville softball team will carry its 10-15 overall record into a pair of midweek matches, as the Aces travel to Austin Peay on Wednesday and host Western Kentucky on Thursday at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium. Both games feature a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

The Aces are coming off a strong week in Missouri Valley Conference play, as they went 3-1 against Southern Illinois and Indiana State. With two wins over the Sycamores, UE has already improved on last year’s win total in the league with a 5-6 mark in 2010.

Senior Krista Price has opened conference play strong, as she is batting .394 with 13 hits and 13 RBI. The Kentucky native’s five home runs also come from league play, and Price continues to solidify her spot as UE’s all-time home run leader with 27. Junior Jen Stahlhut has also found a groove, as she now has eight doubles on the year and leads the team with 22 hits.

In the circle, freshman Kendall Kautz picked up two wins to improve to 8-5 while senior Jen McKee earned her first save and win of 2010. In three appearances this week, Kautz gave up 14 hits while striking out 12 and walking two. McKee allowed five hits and three walks while striking out two in her third complete game on Friday.

After snapping an eight-game losing streak, Austin Peay (8-23, 3-7 OVC) has gone 3-1 in its last four games, including an 11-2 win over SEMO in five innings. APSU plays Belmont in a make-up game before facing the Aces on Wednesday. Brittany Williams and Tiffany Smith lead the Lady Govs offensively while Morgan Brewer’s 24 appearances and seven wins leads the team in pitching.

The Hilltoppers (21-13, 5-7 SBC) are currently on a three-game win streak after a series sweep of conference foe Troy. WKU faces Belmont on Wednesday before coming to Evansville on Thursday. Mallorie Sulaski leads the team in batting average while Lindsay Antone also leads in multiple offensive categories. Kim Wagner has thrown a majority of the pitches for WKU with 11 complete games and four shutouts.
