UE Ends Regular Season With 3-1 Win At Creighton

5/9/2010 4:45:32 PM

OMAHA, Neb.—University of Evansville softball senior Jamie Lindauer capped off her final regular-season game in a big way, as her second home run of the year helped push the Aces (18-33, 10-16) to a 3-1 victory over Creighton (33-21, 18-7) on Sunday at the CU Sports Complex.

The smash hit to right center came in the fifth inning after both teams were scoreless up to that point. Alicia Betancur was on base after getting hit by a pitch before Krista Price singled to set up the three-run inning. Going into the fifth inning, CU’s Tara Oltman had only allowed two hits in the game along with five strikeouts, including three in a row in the second.

Kendall Kautz held the Jays hitless until the fourth inning when Michelle Graner put a double down the left field line, but would leave the inning stranded. The only other CU player on base before that was Amy Baker’s hit by pitch. Kautz would end up giving up two more hits after the fourth, including CU’s only run from a home run by Lauren Larson.

Kautz (13-14) completed the game with a total of three hits, two strikeouts and one walk while also earning a hit from her three at-bats. Oltman (28-12) took the loss after going the distance and striking out eight batters. Oltman gave up four hits while walking two.

Although the regular season is over, the Aces will continue to play another day with the No. 8 seed in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament May 13-15 in Des Moines, Iowa. UE will take on No. 5 Missouri State in the 11 a.m. game on Thursday. Fans will be able to catch the action on 91.5 WUEV and also through the MVC Live video streaming available at MVC-Sports.com.
