Head men's and women's swimming and diving coach Rickey Perkins announces Holly Hooe (pronounced “ho”
) as assistant swim coach.
Hooe comes to UE after serving two years as a graduate assistant for the swim team at her alma mater, Eastern Illinois University. While there, she oversaw many aspects of Eastern Illinois’ swim program, including practice schedules and travel arrangements. Hooe also contributed in a recruiting effort that yielded one of the top 25 recruiting classes in the United States.
During her stint at Eastern Illinois, Hooe served as a Student Standards board member in addition to working with the athletics department’s Academic Services. She also completed an athletics department internship with the Office of Philanthropy, during which she promoted, organized and implemented a three-day overnight camp for 30 swimmers. Hooe spent the 2010 summer working at the Charleston Swim Club, where she taught basic swimming skills to various age groups.
Hooe was a member of the Eastern Illinois swim team from 2004-08, swimming the 200 and 400 IM as well as the 100 and 200 breaststroke. She was selected as team captain her senior year. During her career, she was a member of the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence and the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, as well as a Summit League All-Conference Academic selection.
Originally from Iuka, Ill., Hooe graduated cum laude from Eastern Illinois in 2008 with a degree in Communication Studies. She went on to earn her Masters’ degree in Student Affairs in 2010.
