The University of Evansville’s two-game homestand concludes Wednesday night when the Purple Aces (7-8, 1-4) take on the Drake University Bulldogs (7-8, 2-3) at 7:05 CST at Roberts Stadium. The Aces have had more success over the past two years against Drake than any other Missouri Valley Conference opponent, winning three of the last four meetings. That includes victories at Des Moines in both 2009 and 2010. The last three Evansville-Drake games have been decided by 3, 7 and 3 points.
Wednesday is Special Olympics Night With The Aces. All Special Olympics athletes, coaches and volunteers can receive a $13 ticket for just $8 when they come to the ticket window Wednesday night.
Evansville’s first five MVC games have come against the top four teams in the league and sixth place UNI. Those five opponents have a combined record of 19-6 in MVC games. The four teams that UE has not yet faced have a combined record of 5-15 in MVC games.
Junior forward
Kenneth Harris produced his second double-double in league play with 11 points and 10 rebounds Sunday against Creighton. That follows an 18-point, 13-rebound game in Evansville's win over Indiana State. Harris is second for UE in scoring with a 10.4 average and first in rebounding at 7.0. His 105 rebounds are more than double the number of his nearest teammate.
Sophomore
Colt Ryan continues to rank among the league leaders offensively. He is #1 in the MVC in three-point accuracy (.474), #2 in scoring (16.2), #3 in 3-pointers per game (2.5) and #5 in free throw percentage (.831). Ryan is 22 points away from 700 career points.
Junior
Denver Holmes is 10-for-16 from the field in his last three games after going 3-for-11 in his previous three. Holmes ranks #7 in the MVC in free throw percentage (.825) and #9 in assists (2.8). He had 12 points, two assists and two steals Sunday against Creighton.
Seventy seems to be the key offensive number for the Aces this season. They’re 6-1 when they score 70 points or more, 1-7 when they fall short of 70.
The Aces are 6-2 at home this season, and 1-6 on the road. Following Wednesday’s game at Roberts, Evansville plays Saturday at Illinois State and next Tuesday at Southern Illinois. Illinois State is the only MVC team Evansville has not beaten in Marty Simmons' three-plus years as head coach.
