Two-time defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Northern Iowa is up next for the University of Evansville men's basketball team, on Tuesday at 7:05 CST at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. The series between the Aces and Panthers is all tied at 18-18, but Northern Iowa has won eight straight in Cedar Falls over UE. It was the most recent UNI-UE game, on Feb. 23, 2010 at Evansville, when Aces’ center Clint Hopf went down with torn ligaments in his knee.  Evansville went on to upset the 22nd ranked Panthers 55-54 by holding UNI to 33 percent shooting.

•Indiana University is the one common opponent for both UNI and UE.  The Aces lost 67-54 at Indiana on Nov. 21.  Northern Iowa beat the Hoosiers 67-61 on Dec. 22 in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Classic, and went on to beat New Mexico for the championship.

•The Aces are now 4-1 in games decided by five points or less.  The four wins have come over Texas-San Antonio by four, Butler by three in overtime, Middle Tennessee by two, and Indiana State on Saturday by five.  The close loss was a one-point defeat at Air Force.

•There’s been no sophomore jinx for Colt Ryan.  He ranks #1 in the MVC in 3-point shooting percentage (.493), #2 in scoring (17.1), #3 in 3-pointers made per game (2.8), #7 in free throw percentage (.839) and #9 in steals (1.2).  His overall shooting percentage through 12 games is 44.4 percent, up from 37.6 percent as a freshman.

•Junior forward Kenneth Harris scored in double figures just once in his previous six games before busting out with an 18-point, 13-rebound performance Saturday against Indiana State for his first
double-double.  He now ranks #3 in the MVC in steals (1.3), #4 in offensive rebounds (2.4), and #6 in total rebounds (6.9). Harris has more than twice as many rebounds as anyone else on the UE team.

•Two players off the bench sparked Saturday’s comeback over Indiana State. Troy Taylor hit two of three shots and made a steal.  Lewis Jones scored seven points and also made a steal as UE came from 17 down (29-12) to win by five, 64-59.  It was the second time this season Evansville has come back from a double-digit deficit to win.  The Aces trailed at Butler by 12 before rallying to win 71-68 in OT.

•Taking care of the basketball has become the key stat for the Aces this season.  They’re 7-0 when committing fewer turnovers than the opposition, 0-5 when turning over the ball more often.
