SCOUTING THE BEARS (1-7-3, 0-3 MVC)
Central Arkansas enters Wednesday in search of its first win in 10 games. The Bears won their first match of the season, a 3-2 decision over Oral Roberts on Aug. 27th, and have yet to see a mark in the win column since. However, in the skid, all but one of the 10 matches has been decided by more than one goal, including three draws. Most recently, the Bears tied a solid SIUE team, 1-1, on Oct. 12th and fell 1-0 to Mercer University last Saturday. Ethan Miller, Daylon Schiffel, and Chris Deaville lead UCA’s offense with two goals apiece. In goal, Patxi Shortsleeve (1-5-1, 2.01 GAA, 34 SV, .723 SV%) and Amir Pasic (0-2-2, .94 GAA, 21 SV, .808 SV%) have split time in the net.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE ACES (5-6-0, 0-3 MVC)
Evansville looks to get back to the way they played in their 4-1 win at Belmont on Sept. 25, the Aces’ last victory. Since then, UE has fallen to SIUE (2-0), Drake (2-1), and Missouri State (3-0). Junior
Jesse Sharp leads Evansville with four goals, including two game-winners, six assists, and 14 points this fall, followed by freshman
Ryan Stallings with five goals, two assists and 12 points. Freshman
Dylan Terry and senior
Jarrett Robbins have each tallied two goals, as fifteen of UE’s players have recorded points this season. Freshman
Eric Teppen has been a mainstay in the net, with a 4-5 record, 1.44 GAA, 48 saves, .787 save percentage, and two shutouts.
NEW AND OLD GOAL
UE’s goal versus Drake was a result of a veteran-rookie combination in which senior
Jarrett Robbins made a nice cross to first-year
Charlie Macias who chipped in the score, the first of his career. Evansville’s young squad consists of 14 freshmen and three seniors.
LEAGUE LEADERS
On the season, UE is No. 1 in the MVC for assists per game (2.27). Individually,
Jesse Sharp ranks first in assists per game (0.55), while
Eric Teppen ranks first in the conference in saves per game (5.33) and has also recorded the most saves in a single match among MVC teams, recording 10 vs. Loyola-Chicago on Sept. 16.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Aces’ trip to Central Arkansas Wednesday marks the last road game before returning home Saturday for the first of four straight home matches. UE will face Butler at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, and then will host Indiana (10/26), Bradley (10/29), and Western Illinois (11/1). The Aces end the regular season on the road at Creighton (11/5).
