CONWAY, Ark. – Despite combining for 24 shots in Wednesday evening’s contest, neither squad found the back of the net, as the University of Evansville men’s soccer team recorded its first draw of the season at Missouri Valley Conference opponent Central Arkansas. With the tie, the Purple Aces now own a 5-6-1 overall record and 0-3-1 mark in the MVC, while the Bears are 1-7-4 on the season and 0-1-2 in the Valley.
"Our boys gave a committed and determined effort, and showed a tremendous level of discipline to play the right way for 110 minutes," said head coach Mike Jacobs. "We did everything but score."
The Aces came out strong to start the match, firing eight shots, including four on net. However, goalkeeper Patxi Shortsleeve stopped them all, and from there the contest became a midfield battle.
Evansville held a 14-10 shot advantage and 5-2 shot on goal edge in the game, led by junior
Jesse Sharp’s four shots, including one on goal. Senior
Tad Kreamalmeyer took two shots on goal, while freshmen
Nick Schroeder and
Charlie Macias each had one.
In net, freshman
Eric Teppen recorded two saves and the shutout, playing all 110:00 minutes of the double overtime match.
The Aces return home for four straight contests, hosting Butler first Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
