CATCH THE ACTION
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS (3-9-4, 1-3-0 MVC)
Drake enters today’s match on a four-game skid, falling most recently to Creighton, 1-0, on Oct. 18th. Laura Moklestad (3g, 1a, 7pts), Danielle Figliola (2g, 3a, 7pts), and Tara Zika (2g, 2a, 6pts) lead Drake’s offense in which 13 players have recorded points this fall. Goalkeeper Kalena Litch has played all but 10 minutes in net with a 1.34 GAA, 112 saves, .830 save percentage, and one shutout.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE ACES (1-11-4, 0-4 MVC)
The Aces come off two tough, 1-0, losses to Valley opponents, Northern Iowa (10/15) and Indiana State (10/18). Sophomores
Kaitlin Robinett (3g, 2a, 8pts),
Stephanie Thompson (3g, 1a, 7pts), and
Tasha Prentice (2g, 3a, 7pts), have scored a combined eight goals and tallied six assists, leading Evansville’s offense. Goalkeeper
Chaviel Harrison has played every minute for the Purple Aces with a 1.89 GAA, 106 saves, .768 save percentage and two shutouts.
RECORD SAVES
With 106 saves on the year,
Chaviel Harrison ranks second in the MVC behind Litch and is just 11 saves away from breaking her own school record of 116 saves in a single-season, set in 2010. Averaging 6.62 saves per game, Harrison has a definite shot at breaking the record with two matches left in the regular season.
SENIOR DAY
UE players
Sam Conrad,
Kasey Cartwright, and
Colleen Marty will be honored today as a part of Senior Day. Conrad, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., leads the Aces’ defense and was an honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in 2010. Cartwright, a native of Park Forest, Ill., still has one year of eligibility left after redshirting her sophomore year due to a knee injury. In 2008, she was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team. Marty, a native of Imperial, Mo., was also a Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team member in 2008, and a starting forward as a sophomore, but has been unable to play the last two seasons due to injury.
ABBY’S COMING BACK!
A year and three months after surviving a fatal car accident,
Abby Guerra will be reunited with her Evansville family Thursday, Oct. 27 when the Aces take on Missouri State in the last match of the regular season.
On July 18, 2010, Guerra and four friends were returning home to Arizona from an outing at Disneyland in southern California when a tire blew out on their vehicle, it rolled over, and two of Guerra's friends were killed. In fact, it was first believed that Guerra was one of those who had died. Her life remained in jeopardy for several days. Many medical procedures followed, and Guerra, who was a starter for the Aces as a freshman in 2009, and was fourth on the team in goals scored (2) and total points (5), spent three months following the accident under hospital care.
However, the Aces’ midfielder has shown remarkable spirit, determination, and progress and she is ready to make her first journey back to Evansville since the incident.
