EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After a scoreless stalemate in the first period of Sunday’s contest, the University of Evansville women’s soccer team chalked up three unanswered goals in the second half, earning a 3-0 Senior Day victory over the visiting Drake Bulldogs. Sophomore Breana Beine led the offense with two goals, while junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison led the defense with seven saves and the shutout.

In the deadlocked first half, both squads took four shots. However, things heated up in the second stanza as Drake (12) and Evansville (11) combined for 23 shots.

The Aces broke onto the scoreboard in the 67th minute of play when sophomore Stephanie Thompson lobbed an arching pass into the middle of the box. The ball hit off the back of classmate Kaitlin Robinett and her defender as they both went for the header, and snuck past goalkeeper Kalena Litch.

In the 88th minute, Beine took command, and led a breakaway down the left side of the field. Her shot between two defenders found the back right of the net and gave Evansville a comfortable 2-0 lead with just minutes remaining.

However, Beine was not done yet. From almost the exact same spot on the field, the native of St. Peters, Mo. had a shot on an open net after Litch came too far out of the box in attempt to slow up Beine. The goal, 70 seconds after the previous, marked her third of the season.

Beine led the squad with eight shots, including five on goal, as UE recorded 15 shots and a season-high 10 shots on goal. The win improved Evansville’s record to 2-11-4 overall and 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-10-4 on the season and 1-4 in the Valley.

In a pregame Senior Day ceremony, senior defenders Sam Conrad and Kasey Cartwright, along with student assistant coach Colleen Marty and student athletic trainer Garrett Dugger, were honored for their contributions to the women’s soccer program.

The Aces close out the regular season Thursday when they play host to Missouri State at 7:00 p.m. CT at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
