Men’s Soccer To Host No. 10 Hoosiers Wednesday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With three home contests remaining in the regular season, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team welcomes No. 10 Indiana University to Arad McCutchan Stadium Wednesday. The non-conference match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. CT.
 
HISTORY LESSON
Against in-state foe Indiana University, the Aces trail the all-time series, 4-23-3. Evansville looks to make ground on the series Wednesday. The teams first met in 1978, a 1-0 win by the Hoosiers. Evansville’s victories in the series came in 1985 (two 3-0 wins), 1988 (1-0) and 1990 (1-0). The last time Evansville hosted IU, the Aces fell 3-2 in overtime in front of 2,360 fans, the 11th largest crowd in UE soccer history. In their last meeting, the Aces were edged, 1-0, on Sept. 29, 2010 in Bloomington, Ind.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth. Gates will open one hour prior to the start of the game and all entrances will be staffed with ticket sellers. Please arrive early to avoid long lines. SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS (9-3-3, 2-1-1 Big 10)
Indiana enters Wednesday’s match with a No. 10 national rank and a four match lossless streak. After topping Butler, 1-0 (10/12), Michigan, 4-1 (10/18), and Kentucky, 2-0 (10/19), the Hoosiers tied Michigan State, 2-2, last Sunday. Eriq Zavaleta (8g, 3a, 19pts), Alec Purdie (7g, 2a, 16pts), and Nikita Katlov (4g) have combined for 19 of IU’s 28 goals this season. Goalkeeper Luis Soffner has played all but 18 minutes in net, recording a 0.84 GAA, 56 saves, a .812 save percentage, and six shutouts.
 
SCOUTING THE PURPLE ACES (5-7-1, 0-3-1 MVC)
Evansville comes into the midweek match off a tough 1-0 loss to Butler last Saturday. On the season, junior Jesse Sharp leads Evansville with four goals, including two game-winners, six assists, and 14 points this fall, followed by freshman Ryan Stallings with five goals, two assists and 12 points. Freshman Dylan Terry and senior Jarrett Robbins have each tallied two goals, as fifteen of UE’s players have recorded points this season. Freshman goalkeeper Eric Teppen has tallied three shutouts, 57 saves, and a 1.24 GAA in net.

TIP TOP TEPPEN
Eric Teppen recorded nine saves last week, including a shutout in UE’s 0-0 double-overtime tie with Central Arkansas. Playing all 200:00 minutes, as the Aces went 0-1-1 on the week, Teppen recorded a 0.45 GAA and .900 save percentage. Against, Butler, the Evansville native tallied seven saves, going up against 13 shots.
 
TOUGH COMPETITION AHEAD
With four matches left in the regular season, Evansville will be up against tough competition, facing three nationally ranked teams. Up first, No. 10 Indiana University, followed by No. 39 Bradley on Saturday and Western Illinois next Tuesday. UE closes the regular season on the road at No. 3 Creighton on Nov. 5.

SCORING SLUMP
The Aces look to get the offense going again this week after being shut out in the last three matches. Evansville ranked as high as 18th in the nation in scoring offense on Oct. 2, but since then has struggled to find the back of the net. UE has scored just one goal in the last five matches.
