SCOUTING THE BRAVES (10-4-2, 2-2 MVC)
Coming off a 1-0 win over league-leading Missouri State Wednesday, Bradley looks to clinch a spot in the MVC Tournament with a victory over Evansville. Bryan Gaul leads the Braves’ offense with nine goals, two assists, and 20 points, followed by Christian Mezza’s three goals, four assists, and 10 points. Jochen Grat, Wojciech Wojcik, and Desmond Campbell have all tallied two goals this fall. Goalkeeper Brian Billings owns a 9-4-2 record in net with three shutouts, a 0.90 GAA, 58 saves, and a .806 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE ACES (5-8-1, 0-3-1 MVC)
Evansville comes off Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to No. 10 Indiana University. In conference play, UE most recently ended in a 0-0 draw with Central Arkansas on Oct. 19. On the season, junior
Jesse Sharp leads Evansville with four goals, including two game-winners, six assists, and 14 points this fall, followed by freshman
Ryan Stallings with five goals, two assists and 12 points. Freshman
Dylan Terry and senior
Jarrett Robbins have each tallied two goals, as 16 of UE’s players have recorded points this season. Freshman goalkeeper
Eric Teppen has tallied three shutouts, 60 saves, and a 1.30 GAA in net.
TIP TOP TEPPEN
Eric Teppen recorded nine saves last week, including a shutout in UE’s 0-0 double-overtime tie with Central Arkansas. Playing all 200:00 minutes, as the Aces went 0-1-1 on the week, Teppen recorded a 0.45 GAA and .900 save percentage. Against, Butler, the Evansville native tallied seven saves, going up against 13 shots. Teppen tallied three saves in Wednesday’s match with IU.
A GOOD RUN
Evansville gave No. 10 Indiana University a run for its money Wednesday night, withstanding down pouring rain and a slick Black Beauty Field, but was edged, 2-1, by the Hoosiers. With the score remaining at 0-0 for much of the first half, the Hoosiers broke the deadlock in the 39
th minute of play. The Hoosiers expanded its lead in the 57
th minute when another shot found the back left side of the net. However, when everything looked in favor of IU, the Aces picked up the intensity and quickly put themselves back into the match, scoring UE’s first goal in the Hoosier series since 2008. At the 58:00 minute mark, senior
Aaron Henkle crossed a perfectly placed ball into the middle of the box to freshman
Nick Schroeder. Schroeder headed the ball to the back right corner of the net, marking his first collegiate goal. Senior
Tad Kreamalmeyer led the attack late in the game, taking three good shots on goal in the 73
rd, 77th, and 79
th minute.
FIRST GOAL
Nick Schroeder’s goal versus IU not only marked his first collegiate score, but also Evansville’s first goal since October 12
th, as UE suffered a three-match scoring drought. Back on the board, the Aces look to expand on it Saturday.
MVC SCENARIOS
With a 0-3-1 mark in the Valley, Evansville must chalk a win over Bradley in order to stay in contention for the MVC Tournament. Six of seven teams in the league will compete in the tourney, but a loss Saturday will make UE the only squad without a conference victory. Even with a loss, it is still possible for the Aces to end with the same record at SIU Edwardsville, but since SIUE beat UE, 2-0, on Oct. 8, the Cougars would get the tournament berth. A win will give the Aces one Valley win along with SIUE and Central Arkansas, and the fight in the standings will continue into next week’s final round of matches of the regular season.
LOOKING AHEAD
After taking on Bradley Saturday, Evansville will face Western Illinois Tuesday in a non-conference contest. UE closes the regular season on the road at MVC foe No. 3 Creighton next Saturday.
