BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-  The University of Evansville’s men’s swimming and diving team retained second place and the women’s swimming and diving team took third place during the second day of the Hilltopper Invitational.  The women’s team place third behind host Western Kentucky University and Vanderbilt University, with a total score of 795.  The men continue to hold second in front of the University of the Cumberlands with 791 points. 

For the women’s team, senior Alex Howard, junior Michea Reinitz, and freshmen Caroline Lee and Samantha Montgomery started the finals with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.08.  In the 100-yard butterfly, Reinitz took third with a time of 58.02.  Freshman Michelle Tipton led the women’s team with a first place finish in the 200-yard free in 1:51.90.  Howard also notched a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.12.

For the men’s team, senior Colin Gray, juniors Alex Seward and Kyle Tiemann and sophomore Ryan Metzger took fourth in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:37.06.  Seward notched a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.56.  Senior Jacob Harrington led the men’s team with a first place spot in the 200-yard free with a final time of 1:42.86.  Seward, Tiemann, Harrington and sophomore Daniel Musselwhite wrapped a meet with a second place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:05.76.

Diving scores will be announced tomorrow.  Both teams are set to finish their last day of the invitational tomorrow at 8 a.m.
