FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The University of Evansville tennis team took care of business quickly Saturday morning, defeating St. Francis (Pa.) 7-0 before losing 6-1 Saturday afternoon to the Western Michigan Broncos.
Coach
Nick Mueller's squad is now 4-2 going into Sunday's 8:00 a.m. EST match against Chicago State.
In Saturday's first match, Evansville won both doubles matches by 8-0 scores, and singles players
Kate Chybowski,
Ashton Schwerin,
Pin Sorensen and
Carolyn Caire all won their matches in straight sets. The Aces' only win against Western Michigan came from Caire at number six singles. Chybowski
and Dora Kotsiou# won 6-0 games, but ended up losing to their opponents in three sets.
"We battled; we were close in doubles, but Western Michigan is a very good team," Mueller said. "So far this weekend I've seen a lot of positives. We've learned a lot from the losses. We just need to shore up a couple weaknesses. Our energy level has been very good so far this weekend, but we haven't played three straight days since October, so we'll need to reach down and be ready for Sunday."
