The final men's basketball game in the 55-year history of Roberts Stadium is almost here, and the University of Evansville is encouraging fans and former players to enjoy it together.

Tip-off is at 2:05 CST Saturday between the Purple Aces and Illinois State University, and tickets will be available through game time at the Roberts Stadium box office.

Scott Haffner, whose 65-point game in 1989 still stands as the school record, will address the fans at the first timeout of the first half.   All-time leading scorer Larry Humes will do the same at the first called timeout of the second half. Immediately after the game, UE seniors Clint Hopf, Kavon Lacey and Pieter van Tongeren will get their turn to talk to the fans.  And then the Roberts Stadium celebration begins, with short remarks from Wayne Boultinghouse (representing the Arad McCutchan era), Kathy King Vonderahe (representing the  1977-78 team), former head coach Dick Walters, former head coach Jim Crews, and 2009 graduate Jason Holsinger.  Then comes a special surprise to close out the day.  Fans will be invited to come down onto the court to meet the former players and coaches at the end of the festivities.

More than 40 former players are scheduled to attend, including the top four living scorers in school history--Humes, Marcus Wilson, Haffner and Andy Elkins.

The Aces’ all-time record at Roberts going into Saturday is 603-231 for a winning percentage of .723. A total of 6,269,637 fans have come through the gates in those 55 years for an average of 7,518 per game.  Next season, both the UE men and women will play in the new, $127 million downtown arena that will be completed in time for the 2011-12 season.

Saturday's game is the final one for all 10 Missouri Valley Conference teams.  Win or lose Saturday, Evansville will be the #6 seed in next week’s State Farm MVC Tournament.  The Aces will play #3 Indiana State Friday, March 4 at 8:35 CST at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Illinois State is guaranteed a Thursday, March 3 first round game against Southern Illinois.  One will be the #8 seed, the other #9.
