The University of Evansville's four-game Missouri Valley Conference win streak (longest since 1999-00) ended Saturday at Creighton, but the Purple Aces will try to extend their homecourt streak to five games Tuesday when defending MVC champ Northern Iowa comes to town for a 7:05 CST game at Roberts Stadium.

The last time Evansville won five straight home games against MVC teams was 1997-98.  UNI is alone in third place at 9-4, two games ahead of UE, Indiana State and Creighton.  The Aces have won six of their last eight games, all in conference play.  UNI has won eight of its last nine, but the Panthers are without 2010 MVC Sixth Man Of The Year Lucas O’Rear, the team’s leading rebounder and fifth leading scorer.  He suffered a fracture to his ankle two games ago, and is out for the season.

Game one this season went to Northern Iowa 65-53 at Cedar Falls on Jan. 4.   Anthony James, Jake Koch and Marc Sonnen combined for 38 points and 17 rebounds for UNI.  Colt Ryan (15), Ned Cox (12) and Denver Holmes (11) led the Aces.  UNI outrebounded UE 30-19 and outscored the Aces 24-9 from three-point range.

Colt Ryan made nine field goals, his most in an MVC game this season, in Saturday’s loss at Creighton.  Ryan is now 23-for-23 from the free throw line since missing at Missouri State Jan. 7.  He ranks #2 in the MVC in free throw percentage (.875), #3 in scoring (15.0), #3 in steals (1.4), #5 in 3-pointers per game (2.0) and #9 in 3-point FG% (.402).  The sophomore is 21 points away from 800 in his career.

Kavon Lacey’s scoring average has risen to five points per game for the first time this season.  The senior guard has scored 37 points in his last four games, the most in any four-game span of his career.  Lacey also ranks #4 in the MVC in assist-to-turnover ratio (+2.0) and #6 with 3.0 assists per game.

Freshman Jordan Jahr and junior Denver Holmes are hot from 3-point range.  Jahr is 8-for-15 in his last six games after hitting 7 of 21 through his first 17 games. Holmes is 9-for-15 in his last five games.  He was 8-for-25 in his first 18 games.

Senior center Pieter van Tongeren has shot 50% or better in 12 straight games and continues to lead the league in field goal percentage at 66 percent, the third best mark in league history.

Leading rebounder and second leading scorer Kenneth Harris came off the bench and played nine minutes Saturday at Creighton after missing the Missouri State game Feb. 2.  Harris suffered a mild concussion in the previous game, Jan. 29 against Southern Illinois.
