ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Southern Illinois' Korey Love edged Ashton Schwerin in three sets at number four singles to break a 3-3 tie and give the Salukis a 4-3 win over the University of Evansville today at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championships, being held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

SIU, the number five seed, advances to Saturday's semifinals against league champion Wichita State.  Evansville's season comes to an end with a 12-8 record.  Coach Nick Mueller's Aces accomplished their highest MVC finish in school history (tied for third) and their highest MVC Tournament seeding (fourth).

But the Aces couldn't put away Southern Illinois, despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. UE's number one duo of Kate Chybowski and Dora Kotsiou defeated Jennifer Dien and Melanie Delsart 8-3, and the Aces then won the point with a victory from the number three team of Kelsey Costales and Shwerin.  They beat Anita Lee and Vishakha Sheoran 8-5.

Pin Sorensen made it 2-0 with her 6-4, 6-1 victory at number five singles over Anastacia Simons, but the Salukis countered with a big win at number one as Delsart beat Chybowski 6-2, 6-4. Southern then tied the score 2-2 when Sheoran defeated Carolyn Caire 6-2, 6-3 at six singles, and the Salukis took their first lead thanks to Lee's 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Kotsiou at number two singles.

Aleksandra Dzakula tied the match again with her exciting 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win at number three against Dien, but moments later Love pulled out the 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over Schwerin to keep Southern Illinois alive in the MVC Tournament.

Friday's match was the final one for Chybowski, Sorensen and Schwerin, UE's three seniors.  Chybowski is the Aces' all-time leader in total victories (189) and singles victories (107).  She is second all-time at UE in doubles victories with 82.
