EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced May 5th the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. Senior Cody Fick of the University of Evansville baseball team is a part of that list.

The Olerud Award, which recognizes a player who makes an impact both on the mound and at the plate, will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.

Fick currently leads Evansville in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.409), slugging percentage (.659), hits (72), RBI (61), doubles (18), home runs (8), and total bases (116) through 43 games. He tops the Missouri Valley Conference in batting average and runs batted in, and also ranks third nationally in RBI per game. In under three seasons, Fick has recorded 221 hits in his career, 172 RBI, and 36 home runs. He is currently four home runs away from tying UE’s career record of 40, and sits at second for RBI.

After UE’s top two pitchers suffered season-ending injuries in the first weekend of play, Fick stepped in and developed into Evansville’s ace. Fick started the year with a perfect 5-0 record, including a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts over Jacksonville. He also recorded consecutive wins over Big Ten opponents Michigan State and Indiana University. The Freeburg, Mo. native led UE to its first Valley series win of the season, hurling a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts at Bradley on April 24th. At this time, Fick owns a 6-3 mark with a 2.57 ERA, and has limited his opponents to a .238 average. When not on the mound, Fick is playing either third or first base and is always in the Aces’ batting order whether in the field or on the mound.
