EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Freshman goalkeeper Eric Teppen of the University of Evansville men’s soccer team has been recognized nationally for his play last week, earning a spot on College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week, as well as earning Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Teppen was named to the all-tournament team at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Classic hosted by Bradley University, leading Evansville to a championship with two wins, a shutout, and 17 saves. The first-year played all 199:31 minutes in the net over the weekend with a 0.45 GAA.

Against Loyola-Chicago, Teppen tallied his second shutout of the season with a career-high 10 saves, as Evansville routed the Ramblers, 4-0, in the tournament-opening match.

The Evansville, Ind, native also recorded the victory with seven saves in UE’s double-overtime championship triumph over Memphis, a team that received national poll votes this season and entered the contest undefeated. Teppen made three spectacular saves in the second overtime period that extended the match, setting up UE’s winning goal in the waning seconds of the contest.

After playing in the University of Kentucky’s Tournament two weeks ago, but not facing the host team, Evansville (4-2-0) heads back to Lexington to take on the No. 21 Wildcats (6-2-1) Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT. UE will also travel to Nashville, taking on Belmont (4-3-0) Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
