EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Saturday, the Purple Aces cross country teams will play host to the annual Mid-America Opener set to begin at 10 a.m. at the UE Cross Country Course.
Set to take part in the meet along with UE are Louisville, USI, Indiana State and Kentucky Wesleyan. On the men’s side, Big East member Louisville enters the weekend ranked second in the Southeast Region while Indiana State stands at No. 10 in the Great Lakes Region.
Both women’s squads are also ranked as the Cardinals are second in the Southeast while Indiana State sits in tenth.
Evansville returns a great deal of talent on both of its teams. Junior Lauren Zeabart is coming off of a strong spring season that saw her win the 5,000-meter run at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Track & Field Meet. Senior Brian Denny had a solid showing at the event, finishing third in his 5,000-meter event.
The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the women’s teams running a 4K race while the men will go a distance of 6K. The course is located at 20404 Barton Road in Evansville.
