Day One Results
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Aleks Dzakula and
Jessica Raatz had a thrilling come-from-behind doubles win as the University of Evansville women’s tennis wrapped up day one of the UK Fall Invitational on Friday.
Raatz and Dzakula trailed the team of Milena Poffo and Saioa Oscoz of Eastern Kentucky by a 4-1 deficit, before rallying for a 9-7 victory in their opening doubles round. They would later fall to Kansas in a hard-fought 8-4 match.
The pair of
Natasha James and
Dora Kotsiou also put forth a winning effort on Friday, taking down Alix Young and Jessica Montemayor of Morehead State by a score of 8-4.
Emily Richardson was the top performer in singles play. After falling 6-2 in the opening set against Mengdi Liu from Cleveland State, she fought back for a 6-1 win before Liu took the match with a 6-4 win.
James and Kotsiou also put forth strong efforts in their respective singles matches against Kansas and Purdue.
On Saturday, doubles play will wrap up in the morning before the second round of singles play. Sunday will mark the singles finals.
