BAXTER, Tenn. – The University of Evansville cross country squads came away with a clean sweep of the events at the Tennessee Tech Invitational on Friday afternoon at Southern Hills Golf Course.
Senior
Cody Stein topped the men’s race as the Aces earned the team win while
Kelby Jenkins picked up her third win of the season as the women earned the top spot in the 5K race.
Stein led the 64 men’s runners with a time of 25:25.56 just ahead of teammate
Josh Genet, who took second with a time of 26:36.82.
Andrew Barrett made it a clean sweep (an unattached runner took third) of the top spots in the scoring as he was the third registered runner to cross the stripe.
Freshman
Jon Ashby made it four Aces in the top ten as his 27:46.56 was good enough to take ninth place.
Brady Hall (16
th) and
Samuel Mires (19
th) came home with top 20 finishes while
Matt Hamilton came in 24
th,
James Paul took 29
th and Billy McNickolas came in 31
st.
The men finished six points ahead of Lipscomb to take the team win, 28-34. Tennessee Tech took third.
With the men posting a strong outing in there 8K event, the women were even more dominant.
Kelby Jenkins led the way as UE took the top six spots in their race. Jenkins posted a time of 18:45.94 to finish almost 30 seconds ahead of
Lauren Zeabart.
Elizabeth Kingshott took third place honors with a time of 20:09.93 while
Nicole Kreuzman came in fourth (20:17.63).
Jacqueline Carlson rounded out the top five with a 20:20.42 and
Alyssa Moran rounded out UE’s sweep of the top six with a time of 20:24.32.
Maria Lynn wrapped up the event in ninth as UE took seven of the top nine positions. Fifty-two runners took part in the event.
The dominant performance helped the women take the team title. The Aces tallied 15 points and were 48 tallies ahead of Tennessee Tech while North Alabama came in third place with 74 points.
Next weekend, the Purple Aces will be back home for the UE Invitational, which will take place on Saturday, October 13 at the UE Cross Country Course.
