The Evansville women's basketball team owns a 2-2 record entering the Thanksgiving holiday. However, the Purple Aces will have just a short rest before getting back on the hardwood, as UE plays its second Big Ten opponent of the season Sunday, Nov. 25, when it takes on Wisconsin. For the third installment of "10 Questions With...", GoPurpleAces.com caught up with senior Samantha Heck to ask her about the start of the season, what it means to her to be on the verge of a career milestone and several other random questions.
1. You and the rest of the Purple Aces opened the season at Ball State last Friday. How exciting was it to finally get your senior season underway and play against someone other than your teammates?
It was very exciting to start out with a win my senior year. It was good to finally bang on other players and not my teammates.
2. How special was it for you to not only win the season opener, but to give Coach Epps his first road victory as a head coach?
It’s tough to win on the road and to start our season with a win at Ball State was huge.
3. You entered this season just 116 points shy of the 1,000-point mark. What would it mean for you to be a member of the 1,000-point club with some of Evansville’s all-time greats?
I know a lot of great players that are in the club, so it means a lot to make this accomplishment. I have worked so hard these past few years and it is a great feeling to achieve this goal.
4. Since you have now had four years to explore the city of Evansville, what are some of your favorite places to visit are and are there any great spots that you know of that people may not have heard of before?
Showplace Cinemas South because I love movies and even though they have been out for a while, they’re cheap and it’s a nice place to go to.
5. Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
Life ain’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
6. What is the best advice that you have been given either on or off the court?
Believe in yourself and anything can happen
7. Do you speak any other languages and if not, if you could learn would, what would it be?
I speak a little bit of French, but I would definitely like to be more fluent
8. What is your favorite dessert?
Carrot cake
9. Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Not really, I just text my dad before every game and he gives me advice for that game.
10. So far, what has been your best moment as a Purple Ace?
My best moment would be playing mud volleyball at the Warrick County Fair. It was disgusting, but so much fun!
