MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Evansville women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 with an impressive 6-1 victory at Murray State on Friday afternoon.
“Overall, it was a great team effort,” head coach
Nick Mueller said. “We have a great deal of respect for Murray State, they are very good. We definitely stepped up to earn a hard-fought win.”
In doubles play, the No. 1 group of
Dora Kotsiou and
Natasha James remained perfect with an 8-6 victory over the duo of Cassidy Cunitz and Ashely Canty.
Emily Richardson and
Kelsey Costales picked up an 8-5 victory over Carla Suga and Carolyn Huerth at the 2 spot while the pairing of
Aleks Dzakula and
Jessica Raatz made it a clean sweep with an 8-2 win over Ashley Pierson and Jordana Klein.
Five out of six singles players picked up wins for UE. Reigning MVC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week Kotsiou topped Kunitz at the one spot (6-3, 6-2) while Dzakula took down Canty in three sets (2-6, 7-6 (4) and 7-5).
Freshman Natasha James defeated Klein in three sets (6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-0) while Mina Milovic also picked up a win, topping Huerth at the No. 5 spot (6-2, 7-6 (3)).
Gaby Fifer picked up a win at the six spot, beating Pierson (6-4, 6-3). At the No. 4 spot, Richardson took a three-set loss to Carla Suga (2-6, 7-5, 4-6).
Evansville will look to remain unbeaten on Saturday, facing Chattanooga at 1 p.m. in Murray, Ky.
