Kayla Fortner has been named this week’s Missouri Valley Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Fortner led the Aces’ offense this week, hitting .593 with 16 hits over the Aces’ eight games this week. Fortner ended the week with four doubles, a triple and two home runs, hitting her first collegiate homer on March 6 against UTEP.
The Cedar Hill, Mo., native went 3-for-4 in consecutive games against UTEP and Louisiana-Tech and ended 2-for-3 against No. 19 Auburn. Over the Aces’ eight-game road trip, Fortner owned an on-base percentage of .645 as well as a 1.037 slugging percentage, picking up a team-high 16 RBI while scoring seven runs on the week.
With at least one hit in every game this season, Fortner is currently on a 14-game hitting streak with eight multi-hit games. The freshman currently leads the MVC in batting average (.533), slugging percentage (.822), and on base percentage (.596) while ranking second in total bases (37), third in RBI (19) and fourth in hits (24).
