Day 2 Prelim Results

OXFORD, Ohio –
The University of Evansville men’s swimming team wrapped up the second day of preliminary heats at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships today. Due to inclement weather near the Miami (Ohio) campus, the final heats have been postponed till tomorrow morning.

Junior Alex Seward broke a UE school record with his fifth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries. Touching in at 49.02, Seward secured a spot in the “A Finals” tomorrow morning.

“We are swimming well,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “We’ve had a lot of personal and lifetime bests so far which is good.”

Sophomore Ryan Metzger barely missed the finals cut in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 53.56 to take 17th place in the prelims. Senior Colin Gray also notched a Top-18 time, swimming the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.06. Freshman Garrett Johnson had the Aces’ fastest time in the 400-IM, placing 20th with a time of 4:14.05, while senior Will Spradley paced UE in the 200-yard freestyle, placing 28th with a preliminary time of 1:43.58.

UE will return to the pool tomorrow to complete today’s final heats as well as wrap up the rest of the championship meet.
