EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Purple Aces women’s tennis team picked up a dominant 6-1 victory over IPFW on Sunday afternoon at Wesselman Park.
Following a 2-week break, the Aces (9-4) came out on fire, earning the doubles point to open up the match.
Dora Kotsiou and
Natasha James picked up a 9-7 win over Marcy Huck and Caterina Kiefer while
Aleks Dzakula and
Jessica Raatz grabbed an 8-2 win over Raquel Vescovi and Frederique Sunstrum.
Emily Richardson and
Kelsey Costales fell to Anita Henestrosa and Alex Forsyth, 8-3.
The strong start translated into success in singles competition as Evansville won in five out of six flights. Kotsiou (6-4, 6-3) topped Henestrosa while Dzakula (6-0, 4-6, 6-1) was victorious in the second flight over Vescovi.
James kept the streak going at No. 3, downing Huck, 6-0, 6-2 while
Mina Milovic won over Kiefer in a pair of 7-5 set wins. At the sixth flight, Costales downed Sunstrum, 6-1, 6-1.
Gaby Fifer was dealt a loss in the No. 5 slot, 6-0, 6-4.
On Wednesday, UE will commence Missouri Valley Conference play, traveling to Carbondale, Ill. to face Southern Illinois. The match against the Salukis will begin at 2 p.m.
