EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Both the men’s and women’s golf teams from the University of Evansville will be in action on Monday and Tuesday as they will take part in the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
The event will take place at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.
For the women, this will mark their spring opener. In the fall,
Sydney Skiles edged out
Lauren Ellerman for the lowest average of the season. Skiles recorded an 81.91 while Ellerman finished with an even 82.00. Each notched top 15 tournament finishes for UE as Skiles finished in a tie for 14
th place at the UD Invitational in October while Ellerman came home 15
th at the Butler Invitational.
Ellerman’s performance at Butler helped UE to a 7
th place finish, its top outing of the fall. Her first round score of 74 in the event was the lowest round of the fall, edging
Cathy Doyle’s low round of 75, which also came at Butler.
Last week, the men opened up the season with a 12
th place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate as senior
Griffin Wood earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors. Wood wrapped up the contest in a tie for seventh place, which included a 1-under in the second round of play.
Michael Sainz tied for 53
rd place with a 235, 15 strokes behind Wood while
Quinn Vilneff tallied a 238.
Andrew Luo and
Parker Hensley followed with three-round scores of 239 and 241, respectively.
